Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle, Repurpose, Recycle.
I founded Upcycling Creations in 2012 as a way to share my upcycled recipes and upcycled functional art and crafts with others. I am an advocate for plant-based and vegan diets and like to share how I improved my health with plant-based and vegan foods along with some other lifestyle changes. I upcycle traditional, vegan, and plant-based recipes into healthier, nutrient dense ones. I also use upcycled materials in my mixed media art and crafts.
I love cooking. I love animals so I don't eat them. I try to be respectful of other people's food choices but I really love telling people about how I lost a huge amount of weight, improved my health, and how much I enjoy cooking and eating plant-based foods. I don't feel guilty about the food I eat now and I get to live in a kinder way.
I also call myself a remake and mixed media artist. I create upcycled functional art and crafts using a mixture of new, recycled, repurposed and reclaimed materials.
My background ...
is varied-many people have supported me through the years as an artist and special education teacher. Art Therapist, Activity Therapist, and Special Education Teacher were a few of my major jobs before. I have retired from public school teaching so my focus is now on showing others how to make food fun, enjoyable, tasty and nutritious.
Prior to adopting a plant-based diet in 2011, I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 25 years. My first exposure was to Peter Singer's literature on animal experimentation-I was convinced I could make a difference in what was happening to animals through my food and personal products choices. While I do not have a degree in nutrition, I have plenty of experience as a busy working professional who needed a better diet and choices that worked with my lifestyle.
